RoDes - Room Design

Room design is an indispensable phase that precedes any practical implementation phase. However, room design is not a practice limited to architects. Instead, most of the home product retailers and furniture stores provide the customers the option of designing their own products themselves.

The current state-of-the-art tools used in designing a room are software tools that are not intuitive enough to achieve best results. RoDes is an intuitive room design application implemented on the Touch & Write table of DFKI. It gives the user the ability to design a room and allocate furniture inside it. Using the digital-pen,  users can freely sketch the room layout, sketch furniture and assign dimensions to it. Manipulation of allocated components is done through intuitive touch gestures. RoDes further provides 3D simulation of the designed room with intuitive touch gesture recognition for 3D navigation. Implemented on top of the Touch & Write SDK, its gesture recognition engine supports a variety of gestures, such as Drag, Zoom, Scale, Rotate, and Pan.
